Applications are invited for a PhD position in complex materials and rheology to work under the supervision of prof. Flavio Marchesini in the Department of Materials, Textiles and Chemical Engineering at Ghent University. The research work can be more experimental, theoretical or computational, and the main goal can be adjusted according to the interest of the applicants. Possible research topics are (i) the development of a constitutive model to describe the rheological behavior of time-evolving materials, (ii) the understanding of the relation between microstructure and macroscopic rheological properties of a class of complex materials, and (iii) 3D printing of soft materials. The position is for four years. Collaboration with other groups within and outside Belgium are possible. All suitable candidates are encouraged to apply. The deadline for application is February 28th, and the start date is negotiable.

Job profile

Suitable candidates should have a background in engineering, physics, applied mathematics or a related field. Previous experience in rheology or 3D printing is a plus, but not required.

Other profile requirements:

  • Ability to conduct high-quality research
  • Good English writing skills
