Postdocs joining this new mathematics department in the Center for Systems Biology Dresden (CSBD) will develop mathematics with the view to solve open problems in the life sciences. We collaborate with nearby experimental groups within the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG), enabling interactions with biologists for maximal scientific impact. We are committed to curiosity-driven fundamental research and to transferring concepts and structures from mathematics into biological sciences.

We are particularly seeking to hire in applied and computational areas of mathematics like:

  • Applied Algebraic Geometry and Topology
  • Computational Geometry / Topology
  • Differential Equations, Stochastics and Mathematical Modelling
  • Mathematical Statistics and Data Science

We also hire in fields exploring the interaction of mathematics and the sciences like:

  • Algebraic Statistics
  • Bioinformatics
  • Combinatorics and Applied Algebraic Geometry
  • Computer Algebra
  • Data Science / Mathematics of Data
  • Dynamical Systems and Differential Equations
  • Information Geometry
  • Higher Structures and Category Theory
  • Fluid Dynamics
  • Information Theory and Network Analysis
  • Mathematical Biology
  • Mathematical Machine Learning / Theory of Deep Learning
  • Mathematical and Theoretical Physics
  • Stochastic Topology

Successful candidates should be willing to closely collaborate with at least one of the research groups of the institute.

The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) and the adjacent Center for Systems Biology Dresden (CSBD) are basic research institutes that pursue a mission to advance multiscale biological discovery through innovative and cutting-edge mathematics, physics, and computation. Currently about 500 employees from over 50 countries work at the institute in a highly collaborative and curiosity-driven environment. MPI-CBG has twice been awarded the title “Best Place to Work” (Academia and postdocs) by the journal “The Scientist”. Employees appreciate the collegial atmosphere, as well as the family-friendly and flexible working conditions. The official language of the institute is English.
