Position
Permanent position as Senior Lecturer in Laboratory Medicine at the Department of Laboratory Medicine.

Work duties
Work duties include developing and leading preclinical and/or translational cancer research, primarily in one of the following areas: cancer biology, cancer genetics, tumour stroma biology, cancer modelling or paediatric cancer research.

The duties also include actively applying for internal and external research funding, actively participating in teaching and supervision at first, second and third-cycle level, handling administrative tasks, holding internal and external elected office as well as collaborating with wider society. Other duties may also occur.

Qualification requirements
In accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4 Section 4, a person is eligible to be appointed as senior lecturer if they have demonstrated research expertise and been awarded a PhD or have the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the position and the duties that it will involve. Teaching expertise is also required. According to Lund University’s Appointment Rules, the applicant must have completed training in teaching and learning in higher education of at least five weeks or have acquired equivalent knowledge in another way in order to be eligible. If the candidate has not completed five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education and is subsequently employed, completion of that training within the first two years of employment is included in the employee’s work duties.

Assessment criteria
The applicant must have demonstrated research and teaching expertise of value for the subject. During the assessment, particular weight will be accorded to research expertise. Research expertise is demonstrated by the applicant maintaining a high national and international standing as a researcher and having well-grounded research expertise.

During the assessment, particular weight will be accorded to the applicant’s potential to further develop the research environment and create strong research activities within the subject area. Being in receipt of current funding obtained in national or international competition is particularly desirable. Similarly, publications at the highest international level in recent years, where the applicant is the senior author are particularly desirable.

Experience of international research or research at a higher education institution other than the one where the candidate obtained their PhD is desirable.

Importance will be attached to teaching expertise at first and second-cycle levels as well as the ability to supervise doctoral students. Merit and expertise linked to administrative skills, academic leadership, the capacity to collaborate and a proven ability to interact with wider society will also be taken into account.

Teaching staff at Lund University are required to be suitable for the position and to have the general ability to fulfil their work duties well.
