Scholarships in Norway
Choosing to study or advance your research career in Norway places you within one of the most prosperous, egalitarian, and naturally stunning countries in the world. Consistently ranking at the top of global indexes for human development, safety, and economic stability, Norway offers a premier academic landscape deeply committed to social equity and environmental sustainability. Securing a degree or an academic position in Norway provides immense practical value, granting you access to highly funded research facilities, exceptional social benefits, and an unparalleled standard of living.
The primary value of obtaining a Norwegian qualification or an advanced research role lies in the country’s premium employment standards and massive investment in public education. While recent policy changes require non-EU/EEA students to pay tuition fees for bachelor’s and master’s programs, Norway offers a robust array of institutional waivers, bilateral grants, and specialized stipends to offset these costs.
For postgraduate and doctoral researchers, Norway is one of the most financially rewarding destinations in the world. PhD candidates and postdoctoral fellows are not categorized merely as students; they are hired as full-time civil servants under the national collective bargaining agreements. These roles offer exceptionally high, regular monthly salaries, comprehensive state healthcare, full pension contributions, generous parental leave, and complete worker protections.
Professionally, Norway’s academic sector is a world leader in green technology, marine biology, clean energy, and polar research, maintaining direct, lucrative ties with the country’s booming maritime and renewable energy industries. Furthermore, international graduates enjoy a straightforward pathway to permanent European residency, supported by an expansive post-study visa window to secure a high-skilled career.
