Key scientific questions will focus on understanding soil ingestion rates and exposure levels to lead (Pb) among children in specific age groups and provide comprehensive multimedia metrics for exposure assessments. The position will be supported by the new EPA STAR grant. There are many opportunities and resources for developing new projects and being a part of other projects related to the ongoing air pollution and climate change projects in the lab as well. Our work is interdisciplinary and for the EPA STAR grant project, there will be ample opportunities to work with researchers in the Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health (MPI Dana Barr) and in the School of Medicine (Co-I Ziad Kazzi) at Emory University, along with a community partner organization Historic Westside Gardens (Co-I Rosario Hernandez) and many other community members in the Westside of Atlanta.   Our lab has worked in the neighborhood since 2018 and has conducted community-engaged participatory research. We found the contamination and it has led to the area becoming a Superfund site. Job Summary: Postdoctoral Fellow to serve in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Emory University in the School of Medicine. EHVP provides clinical services to post-9/11 veterans and service members at no cost to the patient as part of the Warrior Care Network. Our efforts aim to improve the clinical management of locomotor deficits across healthy aging and in persons with neurological and musculoskeletal conditions, as well as applications to injury prevention strategies and surgical recovery after knee surgery. Active studies range from traditional neurophysiological studies in humans and quantitative movement analysis. Collaborations with Emory Sports Medicine are dedicated to improving outcomes after anterior crucitate liagment injury (e.g. probing sensorimotor mechanisms of poor quadriceps recovery) and identifying risk of reinjury.   Responsibilities: The postdoctoral fellow will help with projects examining the functional role of proprioceptive feedback at rest and during locomotor tasks and possibly examine sensorimotor mechansims that influence strength recovery and functional use of the knee after knee surgery.     Specific roles include coordinating and executing all phases of data collection, analysis, and dissemination. IOP provides behavioral intervention to children who engage in severe challenging behavior. Children seen in IOP attend 5-days/week, 5 hours/day for an average of 16 weeks. Each child is staffed at a 3:1 ratio, allowing for a high level of precision in the behavioral assessments and treatments conducted. The program also emphasizes caregiver training and development of socially valid interventions. A range of outpatient programs provide care to children who engage in mild to moderate challenging behavior. OP see patients once a week and focuses on caregiver training. Most OP services are provided for 12 weeks, but can be longer or shorter depending on how the child responds to treatment. We are looking for individuals who are interested in providing a high level of clinical care and who are interested in contributing to innovative assessment, treatment, and research activities.   The psychologist will join a multidisciplinary treatment team that includes professionals from nursing, psychiatry and care coordination. Intervention focuses on the use of applied behavior analysis for the assessment and treatment of severe behavior problems. This position will support a clinical caseload that includes case management for patients in IOP, conducting evaluations, providing direct services through our outpatient clinics and supervision of psychology trainees. The project is funded by NIH and is based on discovery published in Nature Communications in 2020 that the PIX signaling pathway is required for assembly of integrin adhesion sites in the muscle of C. elegans. This was followed up by generating a heart-specific knockout of one PIX pathway component in mice. These mice develop dilated cardiomyopathy. Your job will be to characterize these mice and gain insight into how the cardiomyopathy develops. You can also receive training in C. elegans muscle biology studying the same pathway. Emergency care is provided by two distinct groups, faculty of the Emory Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Pediatric Emergency Medicine Associates (PEMA), a private practice group. Though care delivered by these groups is provided at different locations in the System, PEMA and the Division have a history of productive interaction and collaboration, and there is a deliberate focus on advancing the alignment and culture of excellence of emergency care delivery across Children’s. Multiple learners, including 250 residents and 11 fellows, rotate through the Egleston, Hughes Spalding, Scottish Rite, and Grady EDs. The Egleston Campus, which opened in 1984, is home to the first and only state-designated Level I pediatric trauma center in Georgia. The facility has 45 ED beds, and it is located on the Emory University campus in the Decatur/Druid Hills area of Atlanta. The ED is comprised of a high performing group of professionals with a reputation as a premier provider of emergency care across the country. The ED is staffed by PEMA, which was incorporated in 2000 but established in 1984 when the leadership at Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital recognized the need for a pediatric emergency room.   Under the leadership of Dr. Joseph Simon, Atlanta’s first free-standing, exclusively pediatric emergency facility was established in July of 1984, which was four years before pediatric emergency medicine was recognized as a specialty with board certification. Marcus Autism Center is conducting a search for a doctoral-level clinician (i.e., psychologist or BCBA-D) with specialization in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and early treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in children to provide clinical care and to support the growth of our Language and Learning Clinic (LLC). The goal for each child admitted to the LLC is for them to acquire the critical skills they need to thrive in a less intensive setting. The LLC relies on the principles of ABA to inform treatment strategies, and utilizes a developmentally-appropriate approach to targeting skill acquisition. The program also has several active ongoing research projects investigating the most effective and efficient ways to improve functioning of autistic children and reduce barriers to learning (e.g. conditioning reinforcers). Rothbaum, PhD, ABPP   Job Summary: Assistant Professor to serve as a full-time psychologist for EHVP in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Emory University in the School of Medicine. The psychologist will work together with an interdisciplinary team to provide clinical services, conduct clinical research, and supervise postdoctoral fellows and trainees in the conduct of care and research. Focus on the retention and development of attending physicians.   Children’s Division of Hospital Medicine In 2021, Children’s Division of Hospital Medicine physicians cared for more than 44,500 patients across our system. The Division is currently comprised of 52 core (permanently employed) physicians and a large pool of active PRN physicians. We experience an average daily census of 126 patients system wide.   The hospitalist program at our Egleston Hospital was started by Joseph A. Snitzer, III, in 1983, and was one of the first of its kind. All pediatric hospitalists are faculty members of Emory University’s Department of Pediatrics and have clinical privileges at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The team specializes in delivering and coordinating the clinical care of hospitalized children, but also has responsibilities in medical education, quality improvement, discharge planning and clinical research.   The hospitalist program at our Scottish Rite Hospital was started in the spring of 1992 by Dr. Richard Kenny and Dr. Dennis Sullivan. At that time, most patients admitted at Scottish Rite were cared for by their own private physicians. Therefore, the hospitalist program was initially developed as a consultative service to assist these physicians. It was also designed to provide inpatient care for patients with a primary care physician unable to care for them during a hospital admission, such as physicians outside the Atlanta metropolitan area or family practitioners without privileges at Scottish Rite.   The hospitalist program at our Hughes Spalding Hospital is managed separately by Emory University’s Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. Division of Hospital Medicine faculty provide clinical coverage at Hughes Spalding. The Division Chief will work collaboratively with the Division Chief of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine to ensure patient care and quality goals are achieved.   Over the next five years, around 1,500 contacts were made in offices and clinics all over Georgia educating clinicians that Scottish Rite had grown beyond its initial role as an orthopedic facility and that a hospitalist service was available to care for their patients during their hospital stay.   In addition to staffing the Egleston and Scottish Rite inpatient units 24 hours a day, seven days a week, our hospitalists provide consultations to surgical and other subspecialty teams who require assistance. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and offers a two-year training program for care of hospitalized children. Post Doctoral Fellow – Radiology

  The postdoctoral fellow will help design and conduct research focused on MRI neuroimaging in patients receiving treatment for HIV, while receiving advanced training from Dr. Candace Fleischer as well as an interdisciplinary team of MD and PhD collaborators to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The ideal candidate will have experience in MRI acquisition in analysis for neuroimaging applications, experience working with human subjects, and experience working with a highly diverse and interdisciplinary team. The candidate will prepare and publish scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator and may be responsible for teaching and supervising research staff.   JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.   Preferred Qualifications: Experience acquiring and analyzying multiparametric MRI data including MR spectroscopy, diffusion weighted/tensor imaging, BOLD/resting-state fMRI, etc.   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field.
