The research group Cosys-Lab, Faculty of Applied Engineering, is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of embedded software for robotic systems.
Position
- You prepare a PhD in the context of a Horizon Europe project on robotic adaptivity, with a dedicated focus on the realisation of safe embedded software platforms for robots. The broader context of the research project is to make robots autonomously adapt their own software when coping with unprecedented situations.
- You interact with the other European research institutions and industry partners involved in the mentioned Horizon Europe project.
- You publish scientific articles and attend conferences related to the research project.
- You assist in teaching tasks for Cosys-Lab (e.g. lab sessions, student exercises, bachelor and master thesis supervision).
Profile
- You hold a Master degree in Industrial Sciences Electronics or Computer Engineering, Engineering Electronics or Computer Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, Physics or another equivalent Master degree, or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.
- You can demonstrate excellent study results.
- We also encourage international researchers to apply.
- You can demonstrate the right social skills to collaborate with other researchers in the context of a European research project.
- You are prepared to travel in the context of the assigned research tasks.
- You have excellent skills in informatics. Experience in embedded systems and embedded software (real-time operating systems and networks for vehicles or machines) or in functional safety engineering is not mandatory but is regarded as a plus.
- You have a broad basic engineering knowledge to collaborate with other researchers on the design of robotic systems.
- Prior research experience (published papers, conferences attended, …) is regarded as a plus.
- Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
- You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
- You can speak and write fluently in English.
What we offer
- We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of one year with possibilities to extension up to four years after positive evaluation.
- The planned start date is as soon as possible, and latest on 1 January 2024.
- Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
- You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
- You will do most of your work at Campus Groenenborger in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
