Position Description
The Department of Radiology, in partnership with the Department of Paediatrics, the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute, and the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of technical development in pediatric brain MRI.
Applicants must have a proven track record of excellence in technical development brain MRI research; examples include (but are not limited to): motion correction, novel contrast mechanisms, hardware development, sequence design and/or optimization. Pediatric research experience would be advantageous, but applicants who can demonstrate a vision for pediatric applications of their research will also be considered. A PhD or equivalent in a relevant area is mandatory and additional academic or industrial postdoctoral training is advantageous. Applicants must have a track record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications and presentations. Evidence of successful teaching, supervision/mentorship of trainees, and/or leadership is required.
The applicant will work in the Child & Adolescent Imaging Research (CAIR) program at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. The CAIR program oversees a research-dedicated 3T GE Ultra High Performance (UHP) MR system (to be installed November 2023) and has developed an international reputation in pediatric neuroimaging. The applicant’s research will help drive pediatric neuroimaging research forward by developing, optimizing, and/or implementing novel image acquisition/analysis techniques. The candidate will have 75% protected time for research and be expected to develop an internationally recognized extramurally (Tri-Council) funded research program and to work collaboratively with other investigators to grow the pediatric neuroimaging research program. The successful candidate will join a vibrant and collaborative Image Science program in the Department of Radiology at the University of Calgary. The Image Science Division is home to 15 PhD faculty members and 5 imaging centres, including the CAIR program. The Image Science division oversees other imaging systems including a state-of-the-art 11.7T small animal MRI system, another UHP human MRI scanner, and MRI guided focused ultrasound. The McCaig Institute’s Center for Mobility and Joint Health (MOJO) also houses extensive high resolution micro-CT, dual energy CT, peripheral MRI, and DXA.
The candidate will become a member of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI) and the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI). ACHRI is devoted to child health research across a wide spectrum of disciplines and is currently leading the One Child Every Child initiative, a Canada first research initiative with a vision for all children to be healthy, empowered, and thriving. The HBI’s vision is healthy brains for better lives and aims to inspire discovery toward innovative solutions for neurological and mental health disorders.
