We are offering one postdoc position to a highly motivated researcher with a background in geography and urban ecology with experience in modeling, GIS and data synthesis. Their work will determine how urban features drive species diversity, how species diversity and urban features are represented in soundscapes and how these relate to human health and wellbeing. They will use modeling approaches to combine natural and social science data. You will focus on developing and implementing mixed modeling approaches to test pathways through which structure–biodiversity relationships are linked to acoustic comfort–restoration outcomes. The models will integrate spatially-explicit structural complexity variables, landscape imperviousness variables, biodiversity (songbird) variables, and human restoration variables. We aim to produce maps of model predictions based on biodiversity indices, restoration variables in relation to urban green and built infrastructure.

We are offering one PhD position to a highly motivated student focusing on the interconnections between biophonic and anthrophonic sounds and environmental features with an emphasis on vegetation complexity, urban infrastructure, and bird diversity. The thesis is part of a greater project studying urban green space and soundscapes and how these relate to human health and wellbeing. Utilizing terrestrial mobile laser scanning (TLS) and automated recording units (ARUs), as well as advanced modeling techniques, this thesis will quantify songbird diversity indices and their relationship with greenspace structure and surrounding urban landscape. Co-funded by the ANR (French National Research Agency) and the DFG (German Research Foundation), our project investigates how the communication between the endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria, at contact sites called mitochondria-associated membranes (MAMs), influences development and recovery from metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD; formerly NAFLD). Our project spans in vitro approaches (in both hepatocytes and non-parenchymal cells), in vivo modelling (in mice) and a clinical trial. These are coordinated over 4 partner labs in Paris, Lyon, Munich and Lisbon. We seek to recruit 3 postdocs and 1 technical staff; each position will be based at a partner lab and will require extensive coordination and cooperation with other partner labs.

PhD Student position in immunology
A PhD student position is offered as part of the CRC 1054 “Control and plasticity of cell-fate decisions in the immune system (https://www.sfb1054.med.uni-muenchen.de) in the Department of Infection Immunology headed by Prof. Christina Zielinski at the Leibniz-HKI. The department of Infection Immunology addresses fundamental questions about the mechanistic basis of the human immunological memory. We investigate T-cell communication with the local tissue microenvironment in settings of infections, autoimmunity and cancer. This research has unraveled several novel T-cell functions and immunomodulatory factors (Almeida et al., Science Immunology 2022; Matthias et al. Science Transl Med 2019 & J Clin Invest 2020, Chao et al. Nat Immunol, 2023). The department uses novel cutting-edge technologies in the area of high-dimensional single-cell analysis (scRNAseq, Spectral flow cytometry) to translate fundamental insights into translational applications for human health and disease. The prospective candidate will have the opportunity to investigate the regulation of human tissue resident T-cells and their crosstalk with the microenvironment in solid organ transplantation and cancer.

PhD for DFG Project: Wood- do you like this smell?
The Holzforschung München of the Technische Universität München with the professorships for “Wood Science”, “Wood Technology” and “Fungal Biotechnology in Wood Science” promotes the innovative and sustainable use of wood-based materials and products through research, teaching and development projects. About the project: The objective of the work is to elucidate the influence of wood characteristics and environmental and technological treatment on the chemical composition and properties of wood, here with the focus on the wood odour and VOC emission profiles. To achieve this aim, the overall odour of wood of Cembran pine (Pinus cembra L.) will be evaluated by sensory investigation. Thereby, not only the wood of different varieties and origins but also standard initial types of treatment will be investigated. The elucidation of common wood characterizing parameters, the overall VOC emission profiles together with determination of the main odour-active compounds will generate a deeper understanding of the unique chemistry and smell properties of Cembran pine. The project is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).

Durch Ihre Forschung tragen Sie wesentlich zur Optimierung der Leistungsfähigkeit von Getrieben bei. In Anbetracht einer Circular Economy ermöglicht dies eine deutliche Einsparung von CO2-intensiven Ressourcen und Emissionen, u.a. bei Herstellung und Betrieb von Antriebssystemen. The Chair of Materials Engineering of Additive Manufacturing is looking for a full-time applicant as Wissenschaftliche/n Mitarbeiter/in (m/f/d) Founded in 2019, the new Chair of Materials Engineering of Additive Manufacturing at the Technical University of Munich teaches and researches in the promising field of additive manufacturing of metallic structures. The main focus is developing and characterizing metallic high-performance materials for/through additive technologies using experiments and computer-aided methods. Furthermore, the chair is dedicated to challenging questions in the field of computational material design, especially with the help of CALPHAD-based methods. For further development of our simulation environment (https://github.com/cmatdesign/CAROUSEL) and its application for developing new materials and adapting the additive manufacturing process parameters, we are looking for support as soon as possible.

PhD position | Sustainable Energy Materials | Electrochemistry
We test novel catalysts for sustainable energy conversion processes such as polymer electrolyte fuel cells or electrolyzers, H2O2 production, or electrochemical CO2 reduction. To do so, the stability of newly developed catalysts is of pressing concern. You will continue our research line around stability assessment of novel catalysts by electrochemical flow cell measurements that will be coupled to on-line analytics (c.f. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41563-019-0555-5). Specifically, an in-house designed flow cell is coupled to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and the stability against dissolution will be assessed. This will be done with collaboration partners around the world. The workflow spans from analytical chemistry to material science and engineering. There is no need for previous knowledge in the described fields but a strong motivation to learn and push the boundaries of our current knowledge further. We are looking for an individu-al with a high willingness to take initiative and motivation to start her/his career at TUM.
