Tasks

As Communication Officer, you are expected to:

  • build up communication strategy, establish communication platforms and identify key messages for the Center in line with the Center’s strategy and in collaboration with Center leadership team
  • develop a network of strong relationships with partners and stakeholder groups to support timely information sharing
  • be broadly responsible for public relations of the Center and interfacing with journalists and media, including social media, to represent Center activities
  • be monitoring and compiling public education efforts and discussions across Denmark and international (e.g., printed articles, TV, conferences, social media) on CO2-induced climate change and emerging mitigation technologies together with outreach officer
  • be a resources and the ‘to-go-to’ person of the Center for external and internal individuals seeking general scientific information on the CO2-climate-mitigation interface, including but not limited to, Center research projects.

Qualifications

You have a relevant natural science, social science, communication or journalistic background, or a demonstrated success record as communication officer. You are a good listener and a strong and clear communicator in Danish as well as English in both writing and speaking, fitting easily into an international environment. You have strong motivational, interpersonal skills and possess a high degree of creativity and independence. You are solution-oriented and have a sense of purpose. You enjoy working creatively with diverse science and non-science individuals in an international environment.


About us

The CO2 Research Center is a new, mission‐oriented Center based with its hub at Aarhus University and satellite institutions at the University of Copenhagen, Technical University of Denmark, Stanford University, Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), University of Tromsø and Eberhard Karls University of Tuebingen.

The CO2 Research Center’s purpose is to develop novel science for CO2 capture and CO2 conversions for storage or utilization to replace fossil carbon and fossil fuel‐intensive processes with sustainable, CO2‐based technologies. The ambition is to be recognized among the top three international science and technology centers for mitigating CO2‐based climate change. In steady state, the Center is expected to collectively include more than 20 research groups with 150 researchers (PhD students, postdocs, and staff).

The Center will pursue distinctively collaborative approaches between the chemical and life sciences. The Center will connect university‐based research with open‐science platforms for innovation with industry partners. The activities will focus on the full value chain and bringing together world‐leading research in capture technologies, chemical CO2 conversion, and life sciences CO2 conversion. Thereby, the Center will strengthen Danish industry competitiveness and enhance the impact of the science developed. The Center will have a comprehensive and inclusive outreach and education program targeting academia, industry, policy makers, journalists, and the public.

The Communications Officer will report to the Head of Operations as personnel manager, and is a key member of the Center leadership team jointly with the Head of Operations, the Outreach Officer, the Education Officer, and the Technology and Industrial Relations Officer. The management team will be supported by three scientific advisors as well as an administrative Assistant.

Expected start in the position is February 1st 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Formalities and salary range

Salary and terms as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Unions.
