At the Department of Food Science, the Science Team for Differentiated and Biofunctional Food (DBF), a
full-time position as a laboratory technician is available for appointment as from 1 January, 2022 or soon thereafter.

Position activities
You will be part of a Science Team consisting of researchers, technicians and students from bachelor to PhD level. The work is project-oriented and the tasks will primarily consist of analyses related to protein chemistry, enzyme activities, protein structures and proteomics and participation in experimental work in collaboration with the researchers. You will be responsible for many different tasks in the laboratory around food analysis/proteomics work, method development, and laboratory management and support and guidance of students in instruments and techniques.

Your activities will primarily be within the following areas:

  • Separation methods like electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE gels, Western blotting, image analysis/gel documentation), chromatography (HPLC and FPLC).
  • Omics technologies including MALDI ToF MS/MS and LC-MS/MS
  • Enzymatic analyses and work with digestion enzymes
  • Laboratory guidance of students and researchers
  • Method development
  • Sample collection, sample preparation and data processing
  • Maintenance of various analysis equipment and laboratory management
  • Purchase of consumables and minor equipment for the laboratory.

Success in the position means that you will be flexible, responsible and able to thrive in a dynamic environment with changing projects and work contexts, as the department’s research is constantly evolving.

Qualifications
You must be a laboratory graduate and have experience with enzyme related analyses, electrophoresis and/or chromatography. In addition, you must have experience in various protein analyses. If you have experience from participation in research projects, this will be an advantage.

Emphasis will be placed on having good analytical skills so that you can independently organize and carry out the laboratory work. You must be good at collaborating and sharing your knowledge with others regardless of job category. You should work carefully and structured, and be able to assess the reliability of your results. It is
expected that you are committed, energetic and have a sense of high precision in your work.

We offer a professional, dynamic and international research environment, where we largely communicate in English in the laboratories, in project descriptions, protocols and in meetings. The laboratories have Bachelor, Master and PhD students as well as guest researchers, therefore you must be able to read instructions and supervise within your area of expertise in English.
