Aarhus University, Denmark – an international top-100 University – has made an ambitious strategic investment in a 5-year recruitment plan to radically expand the Department of Computer Science (www.cs.au.dk). For this call, we encourage applicants that can contribute to our basic theoretical research in efficient algorithms for Machine Learning. Therefore, the department invites applications from candidates that are driven by excellence in research and teaching as well as external collaboration on societal challenges.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to and shape the research and teaching as well as the industrial and societal collaboration associated  with the department expansion. The position is open from February 1st, 2022.

Research areas at the department
The department has research groups within “Algorithms, Data Structures and Foundations for Machine Learning”, Data- Intensive Systems”, “Computational Complexity and Game Theory”, “Cryptography and Security”, “Logic and Semantics”, “Ubiquitous Computing and Interaction”, “Human Computer Interaction” and “Programming Languages”. This call is aimed at strengthening and expanding our strategic development of excellent theoretical research in foundational and efficient algorithms for Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science.

The Department of Computer Science is located in a recently built new campus called IT-City Katrinebjerg, where many institutions and companies working with information technology are located. The Department has a staff of approximately 140 employees including 12 full professors, 17 associate professors, 9 assistant professors (Tenure Track), 23 postdocs, 60 PhD students, and 20 Tech-Admin Staff. Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee, if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made based on an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range
Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment ofAcademic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science,Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.

Research activities will be evaluated in relation to actual research time. Thus, we encourage applicants to specify periods of leave without research activities, for us to be able to subtract these periods from the span of the scientific career during the evaluation of scientific productivity.
