The Niels Bohr Institute announces the availability of a faculty position in physics. The position can be filled at the level of associate professor with tenure or professor with tenure depending on qualifications of the candidate.

The Niels Bohr Institute (nbi.ku.dk) at the University of Copenhagen (ku.dk) is seeking applicants for a faculty position in the field of experimental condensed matter physics. The position is at the associate or full professor level, depending on the seniority of the applicant. Applicants are expected to have an outstanding research and teaching profile and a vision to establish an independent research program and to interact with the existing research groups and students at the Niels Bohr Institute. Current research groups in the field include the Center for Quantum Devices (qdev.dk) and the condensed matter theory group (cmt.nbi.ku.dk). The department has infrastructure for nanofabrication, materials growth, electron microscopy, laboratory space in the new Niels Bohr Building. The Niels Bohr Institute also has research activities x-ray and neutron sciencesquantum optics theoryquantum- photonics, and optics. Other divisions at the Institute include astrophysics, biophysics, geophysics, and particle physics.

The successful candidate must be an outstanding scientist who has already had significant international impact on research and who has demonstrated: (1) the talent and vision to define an independent research program, (2) the scientific maturity to establish an independent research group, (3) the ability to attract significant external funding in open competition at national and international levels, and (4) demonstrate successful experience in research-based teaching, including examination work, and in supervision of students. Besides teaching and supervision, other duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff.

Needed qualifications at the Professor level:Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher-training programme is required. Applicants the professor level are expected to have a strong track record of independent course development and strategic improvement of educational programs. The successful candidate will be an accomplished supervisor at all levels, ideally with a history of successful career development with students and young researchers.

Needed qualifications at the Associate Professor level:Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required. Candidates at associate professor level should ideally have been responsible for lectures and course development as well as supervision at both bachelor and master’s levels. International teaching experience will be considered an advantage.

Current faculty at The Niels Bohr Institute is active in broad areas of theoretical physics including Astrophysics (including Planetary Sciences and Cosmology); Biophysics and Biocomplexity; Geophysics (including Ice, Climate, and Earth Sciences); High Energy and Astro-particle Physics; and Quantum Physics (including condensed matter, atomic, molecular and optical). Terms of employment. The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

Commencing salary for employment at the professor level is currently DKK 636.057 including annual supplement (+ pension DKK 108.765)

For associate professor – commencing salary is currently up toDKK 485.154 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 82.961)

Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
