The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus invites applications for a full time 12-month appointment as a Research Associate in Transportation Engineering with possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and job performance.  The anticipated start date is April 1st, 2022.

This position supports transportation systems analysis research in Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC). The research focuses on multimodal, long-distance large-scale transportation networks and systems optimization problems. Specific responsibilities include developing, managing, and conducting high-quality research projects with Dr. Amy Kim of the Department of Civil Engineering, in collaboration with project sponsors and stakeholders, and interdisciplinary academic collaborators from both UBC and other universities. The Research Associate will engage with practitioners and researchers, and will work closely with research assistants and students in carrying out the above described research and disseminate results.

Applicants must have a PhD in transportation engineering or closely related field (management science, operations research) with a minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral research experience at the level of highest international standards, as evidenced by a strong record of research, publications, and large project management. Applicants should have a strong background in multimodal systems and network optimization, freight logistics and vehicle routing problems, intermodal transportation design, and data analysis methods. Applicants must also be willing to explore new areas of application. They must be able to communicate effectively in written and oral outputs, independently lead research projects, develop and execute research ideas to successful completion, support research grant writing, and oversee undergraduate and graduate student work.
