The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus, invites applications for up to two tenure-track faculty positions in the field of Advanced Manufacturing at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting July 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter. A tenured Associate or Full Professor appointment will be considered in exceptional cases. We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in industrial robotics and automation, robot assisted manufacturing, precision manufacturing and metrology, which are areas complementary to existing departmental expertise. Relevant industrial experience is an asset.

The Faculty of Applied Science at UBC has recently launched a new undergraduate program in Manufacturing Engineering that is jointly run by the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Materials Engineering on the Vancouver campus, and the School of Engineering on the Okanagan campus. The successful candidates will support the program and be appointed in the Department of Mechanical Engineering or jointly appointed in the Department of Materials Engineering. Undergraduate teaching will primarily take place in the new Manufacturing Engineering undergraduate program while research will be undertaken within the department(s).

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline, and should demonstrate the potential to achieve excellence in research and teaching. Successful candidates will develop an independent, internationally recognized research program, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise and mentor Master’s and Ph.D. students, and provide service to the University and the community. They are expected to register as a Professional Engineer in the Province of British Columbia.

Details on Research Statement: Please include both information about your research expertise and experience and about your research plan as a new faculty member, including as appropriate current and potential collaborators (at UBC and elsewhere) and sources of funding.

Details on Teaching Statement: Your teaching statement should describe your teaching interests and experience at any and all scales from one-on-one tutoring to small group tutorials to teaching large section courses. Also, explain your teaching philosophy, including specific examples that have informed the evolution of that teaching philosophy.
